Do I Need TDS if the Property is Under Rs 50 Lakh, or Split Between Buyers?

Short answer: No TDS if the total price is genuinely below Rs 50 lakh. But since October 2024 you can't dodge it by splitting payments across multiple buyers/sellers - all payments in the deal are added together for the threshold test.

Law: Section 194-IA / Section 393(1), Income-tax Act 1961 / 2025 · Authority: CBDT · Status: in force (effective 1 Oct 2024) · Checked 25 Sept 2026
